BluesTonight is the creation of James Childs (aka "Red", aka "Redbone"). Red has been playing music in
Florida for over 35 years. Red started out playing in a High School band in Lakeland, FL., where he began to
develop a following of fans and a lifelong love of music. In 1970 Red moved to Gainesville, FL to attend the
University of Florida. In Gainesville, Reds musical interests blossomed with dorm mates and friends like Jim
McKaba, Barrelhouse Chuck and Joe Berson. Soon, Red moved to The World Famous Blues Shack and started a
tradition of Blues and BBQ that has touched the lives of thousands of musicians and music fans alike.
Many musicians and music lovers would make the pilgrimage to the Blues Shack over the next 35 years to jam with
Red in the front yard during Gator football games. Many nights musicians would gather to "woodshed" in the music
room to work out the changes on blues numbers to be played that weekend at local gigs or a Richenbacker's or
Lillian's Monday night jam.
Having so many fans, friends and musicians dispersed all over the state and country, Red decided it was time to find a way to communicate with all of them. And so BluesTonight was created to provide a common place to gather and find information about upcoming shows and events related to Blues music, for all the Blues Shack alumni as well as all our new friends..
